The AIM Indianapolis Campus was excited to celebrate our second annual Student Appreciation Day & Laugh Olympics this week.
Our students, staff and faculty enjoyed an afternoon together in the summer sun. Among all the games, contests and awarded prizes the most popular event was the hotdog cookout and picnic style lunch. The day was sponsored by dozens of local and national companies. Combining our efforts and their contributions, AIM was able to give away more than 60 different “door prizes” and contest awards. Overall, the day was a huge success!
Throughout the day we took hundreds of pictures and several short video segments. Click on the photos below to open up the online album of photos. And, check out our YouTube channel for all of the videos (to be posted soon)!

The AIM Indianapolis campus is very excited to announce that our team has another new arrival this week. In addition to the new members of the Educational Department (see here for more), we are very happy to tell everyone about our newest addition to the Student Services staff.
Roger O’Banyon has joined our team in the role of Student Services Advisor. Roger will be working from the office adjacent to the computer lab (right next door to Amy in the Career Development Office). Please see the “Who’s Who” sidebar for Roger’s email address (on the right side of this webpage).

Roger brings three decades of experience to our team. Primarily he has been involved in social work for the last 31 years. He has developed a strong expertise in the field of helping others through his years of working as a resource management specialist. His past experience with both state and privately run offices has prepared him to meet the needs of our students as they work through the challenges of balancing life, work and school. Roger will play a very active role in the success stories of our students and graduates.
Roger’s new role with our team will be a great relief to Amy in the Career Services Office. Up to this time, Amy has juggled all the tasks associated with both Career and Student Services. Now, with Roger on the team, she will be able to focus more fully on the Career Services aspects of her office.
This means that Roger will be our “Full Time” Student Services Advisor. He will focus his energies on that department exclusively. As our Student Services Advisor, Roger is charged with supporting students’ pragmatic “life needs” while in school. Student Advisors enter a student’s life during orientation, helping them understand the resources and support system the school offers. They help students solve child care, transportation, and other pragmatic issues; and they work hard to help students carve out their schedules for study time.
The Student Services Advisor maintains lists of agencies to refer students who may have childcare, domestic violence, alcohol/drug abuse issues. The Student Services Advisors also can guide the students to outside agencies that can assist the student with personal financial planning advising.
When necessary, the Student Advisor can call on the School Director or School Director designee to help coach students to succeed. All of these staff members work together to ensure that students remember the importance of the commitment they made to come to school and to problem-solve through issues that stand in their way of success.
Please join us in welcoming Roger to our campus. We look forward to his contributions to our team and our students’ and graduates’ success stories.
Welcome Aboard, Roger!!

Our latest press release from the AIM Indianapolis campus:
PRESS RELEASE
AVIATION INSTITUTE OF MAINTENANCE RECOGNIZED WITH FAA’s MOST PRESTIGIOUS AVIATION SAFETY TRAINING AWARD
Indianapolis, IN – February 25, 2008 – The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Great Lakes Region has selected, for the third year in a row, Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) to receive the Diamond Award for Excellence.
The national aviation maintenance training award was presented to AIM for extraordinary participation in the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) training program and the college’s commitment to aviation safety. The AMT Awards program was established in 1992 to recognize FAA certified aviation mechanics and their employers for participating in extracurricular aviation maintenance training and other continuing education courses.
“We are thrilled to receive this award on behalf of the students and faculty of Aviation Institute of Maintenance. Participation in this type of training program benefits both the individuals involved and the aviation maintenance industry at large. This opportunity to be actively involved in the national effort to increase aviation safety and training puts students on the right track. They are beginning to build real professionalism and are establishing a progression of continuing improvement that will carry them throughout their aviation maintenance careers,” said Andrew Duncan, Regional Director of Aviation Institute of Maintenance, “We look forward to the continuing contributions to aviation safety from the staff and students of the Aviation Institute of Maintenance Indianapolis campus.”
The FAA’s recognition of AIM is well deserved. With more than 300 years of combined experience and thousands of cumulative training hours each year, AIM instructors are notable contributors to the aviation maintenance industry – an industry that consistently benefits from companies like AIM that pledge continued improvement of aviation safety through education.
Eric Cook, School Director – Aviation Institute of Maintenance, congratulated the college, staff and students from the local campus in Indianapolis, Indiana:
“Aviation Institute of Maintenance is honored to accept this national recognition from the FAA. This award reflects our instructors’ dedication to safety and continuing commitment to training excellence. By encouraging our instructors to continue their education we are challenging them to remain on the forefront of aviation safety while enhancing their personal and professional growth. The commitment to these high educational standards is exactly why the AMT Awards program was founded and we commend the members of our staff for their substantial accomplishment.”
The Aviation Institute of Maintenance is one of nine distinguished aviation maintenance schools nation-wide, with headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Through AIM’s FAA-approved program, students are prepared for a high-flying career in aviation maintenance. They learn the skills necessary to become successful in one of the world’s fastest growing industries. AIM graduates are there to meet the increasing global demands of commercial, cargo, corporate and private aviation employers.

We’ve uploaded MORE pictures!! In fact, we’ve uploaded another 1,200 photos for you to view, share and enjoy. This brings our total to more than TWO THOUSAND pictures.
Check them out here:

We hope everyone will enjoy the pictures we’ve uploaded recently. We plan to continue uploading pictures regularly. However, the pace may slow down a bit going forward … mostly because the process of uploading, categorizing and presenting even 100-200 photos is very labor intensive, let alone 1,200!
In lieu of adding more pictures over the next few days we will instead be adding more content in other areas of this site. One of the planned additions will be more information in the “Cool Links & Other Stuff” page. So far we are thinking about adding a list of new links for things like scholarship information, aviation related educational sites, aviation industry news sites, and many more. Additionally, we are preparing some new video content and hope to have it ready to share soon.
Of course, your ideas are always welcome also. Please give us some feedback about what you are seeing on our blog AND suggestions about what you would like to see added to our blog.
Please enjoy the new pictures & we look forward to hearing from you soon!

We are all looking forward to the Holiday Break coming up at the end of this week. It will be nice to have a bit of extra time to spend with family & friends. This is the time of year for Holiday goodies, presents and celebration.
With all the time off for our brains, it is important to remember that the break won’t last forever. We will be coming back to class after the new year rolls around. And, it may be easy to think we will be able to fall back into our routines. That it will be “no big deal” to get back on track and pick up where we left off. Aristotle had some thoughts about this sort of thing. He said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
With that in mind, it might be worthwhile to spend a little bit of your holiday break checking out some of the information in the documents listed below. Of course, we are not recommending nor condoning the idea that you would sacrifice any time away from your family and friends just to read through this stuff. But, if you have a few spare minutes and are near a computer it sure couldn’t hurt to run through these.
We will surely have another post before the holiday break. But, in case you miss it … Have a GREAT Holiday Break! We’ll see you next year!
